Waterproofing
Waterproofing can be defined as the process of creating an object or structure waterproof or water resistant. So it remains unaffected by water and it will resist the ingress of water to the surface. Waterproofing is the combination of materials used to prevent water intrusion into the structural elements of a building or its finished surfaces. Its main goal is to resist hydro static pressure applied by moisture in the liquid state. Waterproofing membranes contains waterproof plastic, rubber, or coated-fabric materials. The materials are used in a system to prevent the ingress of water into foundations, roofs, walls, basements, buildings, and structures when properly installed. The term damp proofing is often confused with waterproofing, however, damp proofing is a system designed to resist the flow of moisture in a gaseous state i.e. water vapour.
Waterproofing in construction fields
In construction fields, a building or structure is waterproofed and thereby make the building resistant to eater by using waterproofing membranes and coatings. This provides structural integrity by using waterproofing membranes and coatings. Waterproofing may also includes thermal and water protection.
In the field of buildings and construction , waterproofing plays a great role in creating a building envelope. Sometimes building envelops, roofing materials, side walls, building penetrations etc… are needed to be water resistant or waterproof. Generally, roofing materials are waterproofed structures.
